Black Butte/Horses

For three summer days at Black Butte Ranch in Central Oregon, I tried to photograph the Three Sisters volcanic peaks and the horses that ran through the meadow but was stymied by cloud cover.  The morning we were packed to leave, the sky cleared and I set up my camera and tripod. Just as I released the timer, my friend yelled, “The horses!”  They were running directly through the shot – a moment of magic which I painted a month later in my studio.
